Power to Renovation was a European Citizens’ Initiative launched by HouseEurope! It advocated for new EU-laws to create equal conditions for existing buildings and to reduce demolition. The initiative proposed a “Right to Reuse” based on three key pillars: (I) tax incentives for renovation and the reuse of building materials, (II) fair assessment criteria that consider the potential of existing buildings, not only their risks, and (III) new values for the embedded CO₂ (grey energy) within existing buildings. The initiative concluded on January 31, 2026.
